I was wondering where the $5 discrepancy was. Sure, considering the last rotoworld blurb on Atogwe was about him getting cut in August - he hasn't even had a sniff since - he is also arbitrarily considered retired. As far as this establishing a precedent, well I am fine with it. If there's no sign of the player getting a job since before the beginning of the previous season, it means I have to go change settings or something on MFL then change them back when the season starts. Too much work. To cite another recent example just barely on the other side of the fence, Neil Rackers is still actively seeking employment in the NFL and even had some last season, so I have no problem keeping him on a roster. ETA: just after I wrote this rotoworld has a blurb for the official retirement announcement for Ashley Lelie. Who by my interpretation above I believe just might have already been retired when this league first started.

Sounds fair to me, thanks. I'll move him to a retired list when I get back from this trip.

even this rotoworld blurb from yesterday doesn't change my mind:
O.J. Atogwe - DB - Free Agent Free agent S O.J. Atogwe is attempting a comeback.
Atogwe never really left on his own terms. His skills simply just eroded after he left the Rams following 2010. Atogwe, 32 in June, signed a five-year, $26 million deal with the Redskins before 2011, but lasted just one season there. He spent training camp with the Eagles last year. Atogwe has 25 career interceptions. Apr 4 - 12:37 AM

Seems like the dust has settled and everything is now as it should be. I can't think of any more examples of a player who has been out of the league without even a tryout who is on a DFFL roster.
Side note: Be patient with your drops. I dropped Jason Hanson the moment his retirement was announced but it takes a day or so for MFL to update. I did check the setting for retired players to count 0% against the cap, however since Hanson was already on my 'salary adjustments' list and not my roster I had to manually fix it. I think if I had waited a day that wouldn't have happened.
