The Tulsa Roughnecks today announced they have signed all the players they selected in the 2012 DFFL draft. RB Isaiah Pead was signed for 3 years at $3, while WRs Brian Quick and Ryan Broyles each received 4 year deals at $2. RBs Dan Herron and Terrance Ganaway and WR Nick Toon were all assigned to the Roughnecks' practice squad.
Roughnecks General Manager Marcus Dupree and Coach Homer Jones, Jr. appeared at a press conference together for the first time since Jones burned Dupree's home to the ground after the Roughnecks traded away RB Chris Johnson a year ago. Although as usual Dupree remained reserved and let Jones do most of the talking, there seemed to be no tension between the two. Both Dupree and Jones have been with the team since it was founded.
Jones has stayed out of the public spotlight while the legal case was resolved. Last week the league announced Jones would not face any internal discipline for the incident, despite questions about alleged bribes by the Roughnecks organization to Judge Ida Belle Watkins who dismissed all charges in March.
Both Jones and Dupree were coy about their plans for the opening of free agency. But if the Roughnecks are true to form they will be very active when offers can be made starting tonight at 11pm local time.
Asked about the rumor that the family of free agent RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis had been seen at Tulsa International Airport yesterday, Dupree denied that the Roughnecks had engaged in any discussions with free agents and insisted they were in strict compliance with all league rules, especially regarding tampering and money laundering. Dupree had no comment when asked why he brought up money laundering when no one has suggested the Roughnecks were doing that, instead noting that he understood the family was simply vacationing in Tulsa.
Jones however openly admitted he had seen Green-Ellis' mother, Latonia Green, each of the last three evenings. "Ain't no league rule that says I can't make time with his mama while she's in town," said Jones.
